Bespoke Cosmetic Packaging
Most cosmetic products are sold in a printed folding carton around a primary container – a glass bottle, a jar, a tube, a compact. The carton has to fit that container closely so it does not rattle, carry the ingredient and regulatory information the product needs, and match the other cartons in the range. We make each carton to the dimensions of its container, in paperboard from 300 to 600 GSM depending on the size and weight, and we hold the print and finish specification constant across every size so the range stays consistent through reprints.
Packaging for Cosmetic Products
- Perfume boxes – cartons or rigid boxes for fragrance bottles, usually with a card or EVA insert to hold the bottle upright.
- Cream boxes and lotion boxes – cartons for jars and pump bottles; the wider footprint needs a stronger board.
- Lip gloss and lip balm boxes – small cartons where a hanging tab or window is common.
- Mascara, eyeliner and eyeshadow boxes – slim cartons and compact-shaped boxes for eye products.

Cosmetic Box Materials
Folding cartons for cosmetics are made from coated paperboard, typically 300–400 GSM for small items such as lip products and 400–600 GSM for jars, bottles and palettes where the box needs more rigidity. A white board gives the cleanest colour reproduction; kraft board is used where a natural look is part of the brand. Rigid boxes for gift sets are built from greyboard with a printed wrap. Board weight affects how the carton feels in the hand as much as how it protects the product, so we recommend it against the product weight and the finish you want.
Printing & Premium Finishes
Cosmetic cartons are usually printed CMYK with one or more Pantone spot colours for the brand colour, so the colour matches across every carton size and every reprint. Soft-touch lamination is the most common finish in beauty because of its velvet hand-feel; matte lamination reads similarly with a slightly harder surface; gloss lamination suits bright, colour-led brands. Foil stamping (gold, silver, rose gold, holographic and coloured foils) is used for logos and product names; embossing and debossing add a tactile logo; spot UV highlights a pattern or logo on a matte background. A die-cut window shows the product where it sells on colour, such as nail polish or lip gloss.
Custom Inserts
Inserts keep a bottle or jar centred in the carton and stop it moving in transit. For cartons we use card platforms and cradles cut and creased from the same board; for gift sets and fragrance we use EVA or foam blocks cut to the bottle, or a printed card tray with cut-outs for each item. Creating Consistent Packaging Across a Product Range
Consistency across a range comes from fixing the specification once and applying it to every carton: the same board, the same Pantone references, the same lamination and foil, the same layout grid for the front panel, the same position for barcode, batch and ingredient panels. Sizes then vary only with the product. When you add a new product, we take the dimensions of its container and produce the carton to the existing specification, so it matches the range without redesign. If you are consolidating packaging from several suppliers, send us the current cartons and we will build one specification for all of them.
What Affects Cosmetic Packaging Cost?
- Dimensions – cartons are cut from sheets, so a larger blank uses more board and yields fewer per sheet.
- Board weight – 600 GSM costs more than 300 GSM.
- Quantity – setup and dies are spread across the run; per-size quantities matter as much as the total across a range.
- Printing – CMYK plus a spot colour is more than CMYK alone; inside printing adds a pass.
- Finishing – lamination is included where it applies to the specification; foil, embossing and spot UV are additional processes.
