Overview
Built around the vessel, not a stock size
A glass container candle is heavy for its size and will crack or chip if it can move inside the box, while a pillar or taper marks easily if it rubs against board. That is why a candle box is specified from the candle's dimensions, weight and vessel type first, and the artwork second.
Most candle ranges are sold as a collection: two or three vessel sizes, several fragrances, and a gift set at Christmas. We fix one specification for board, Pantone colours and finish, and vary only the size and the fragrance panel, so every box in the range reads as the same brand on the shelf and in a flat-lay.
Where the candle goes next shapes the box too. A retail carton only has to survive a delivery to a shop and a customer's shopping bag. A candle sold online travels through a courier network, so its presentation box normally sits inside a mailer box with room for nothing to move.

What goes wrong with candle packaging, and how we specify against it
Glass vessels moving and cracking
Most candle damage happens in transit, and nearly always because the vessel had room to move. A fitted insert in corrugated, card, EVA or foam holds the candle in one position so the insert takes the knock instead of the glass.
Weak bases under heavy jars
A large container candle can push a tuck end base open when the box is lifted. We use a crash lock or snap lock bottom and a heavier board for jars above a modest weight, and size the base to the vessel footprint.
Oil and wax marks on the board
Fragrance oils and soft wax can leave marks on uncoated board, especially with wax melts and unwrapped pillars. A laminated or coated board keeps the print clean, and wrapping the product before boxing is worth considering for very soft blends.
Weak shelf presence
Candles are often bought on scent and look, next to competitors on a crowded shelf. A consistent colour system across the range, a window or cut-out where the candle's colour helps, and one tactile finish on the logo do more than filling every panel with print.
Warning text squeezed in at the end
Candle packaging usually carries safety and usage information, which is hard to fit once the design is finished. We provide a dieline with space planned for it, so the information sits cleanly on a side or base panel rather than being forced in at proof stage.

Board is chosen against the candle's weight and whether the box ships. Figures are typical and vary by grade and mill; the exact board is confirmed on your quotation.

Container candle boxes
Candles poured into glass jars, ceramic vessels or tins are the most common format and the most prone to transit damage. A crash lock carton or a rigid box with a fitted insert holds the weight and stops the vessel moving. Tell us the vessel height, diameter and filled weight, and whether it has a lid, and we will size the box and insert.
Pillar and taper candle boxes
Pillars and tapers have no vessel to protect them, so the box must stop the surface rubbing. A tuck end carton sized closely to the pillar, often with a window, protects it while showing the colour. Tapers and dinner candles suit a long tuck end carton or a printed sleeve over a tray with slots that keep each candle straight.
Tealight and votive multipacks
Tealights and votives are sold in multiples, so the carton needs card dividers or a platform with cut-outs that separate units and stop rattle. A window or a printed image of the candles helps customers see the count. The internal layout is set by the tealight diameter and the number per pack.
Candle gift sets
Gift sets pairing candles with matches, a reed diffuser or a snuffer suit a rigid lid and base or magnetic closure box with a cavity insert for each item. The box is usually kept, so it earns a heavier wrap and a tactile finish. Seasonal sets can reuse your standard insert with a printed sleeve for the occasion.
Wax melt and snap bar boxes
Wax melts and snap bars are flat and light but can mark board with fragrance oil. A small window carton or tuck end carton in laminated board keeps the unit flat and the print clean, and the carton can be sized so the bar sits snugly without a separate insert.

Do you supply inserts for glass candle jars?
Yes. Corrugated, card, EVA and foam inserts are all available and are specified from the vessel's dimensions and weight. Corrugated and card are the most economical; EVA and foam suit heavier vessels and premium gift sets.
Which box is best for a heavy container candle?
A crash lock bottom carton in a heavier board for retail, or a rigid box with a fitted insert for gifting. A tuck end base can open under the weight of a large jar, so we avoid it for heavier vessels.
Can I have a window in a candle box?
Yes. A die-cut window, backed with a clear film patch, lets the candle be seen while the carton still protects it. It works well for pillars and coloured wax.
Can you match our brand colour across the whole range?
Yes. Pantone spot colours are mixed to a reference and reproduce consistently across different box sizes and reprints, where CMYK can drift. It is usually the right choice for a candle collection.
Will you check the warning text on my candle box?
No. Candle packaging usually carries safety and usage information, and fragranced products may carry further labelling. The content is your responsibility; we supply a dieline and print exactly the artwork you approve.
Can candle boxes be posted to customers?
A printed carton or rigid box is not built for courier handling on its own. For online orders we recommend the candle box goes inside a mailer box, or we specify a printed mailer with an insert that holds the candle directly.
Do you supply plain candle boxes without printing?
Yes. Unprinted boxes are available where you brand the packaging with an applied label, which can suit small batches and seasonal fragrances.
How long does a candle box order take?
It depends on the style, board, finishes and quantity. Tell us your required delivery date and our team will confirm whether the timing is achievable, which is worth doing early for Christmas ranges.
